Global Running Day for Kids Run RVA!

GRD_logoOn June 1st, otherwise known as Global Running Day, people from all over the world will put on their running shoes and hit the pavement, trail, or treadmill to support running as a way to enjoy an active lifestyle. There are 146 countries that are participating this year, and of course the United States is one of them, with events popping up from Los Angeles to Atlanta and everywhere in between. Naturally I got excited when I heard about this – you bet I want to be a part of such a huge movement. It’s a movement that is encouraging EVERYONE – kids, senior citizens, Olympic athletes, and even folks who aren’t currently active to get out and put one foot in front of the other.  It’s a day where we put all of our differences – pace, gender, nationality, etc. aside and JUST RUN.all 4 run t-shirt

Of course, you can go out and do a solo run in honor of Global Running Day. There are also resources that you can use to promote running – like this GRD Child Activity Sheet. But lots of folks are choosing to embrace the social aspect of running by participating in local events that have been put together to celebrate. Regardless of how you choose to participate, you are urged to take the pledge to run in honor of Global Running Day. In RVA, we are doing more than just taking the pledge. Some of our local running enthusiasts have put together events that you all should know about!

On June 1st at 6am, runners from alRVA National Running Day flyerl over the Richmond region will gather at the Starbucks on Grove Avenue, hailed as one of Richmond’s most popular running meccas, to head out for a 4 mile run. The best part??? The event, hosted by Fleet Feet Sports Richmond, is completely free! There will be “All 4 Run 2016” tech shirts for sale for $10 if you wish to commemorate your run. There is also a charity component to this event – Fleet Feet will be accepting donations for three local charities: Cameron K. Gallagher Foundation, Girls on the Run of Greater Richmond, and Sports Backers’ own Kids Run RVAClick here to RSVP and learn more about the All 4 Run Global Running Day event.jacki pic

But the fun doesn’t end there! On June 3rd the Richmond Road Runners Club is hosting another awesome event out at Forest Hill Park from 5:30pm – 8pm. The goal with this event?  To get as many people together at one time to run and take an ENORMOUS group picture in hopes of getting RVA into Runner’s World magazine. Again, this is another free event that is open to everyone. And this event has the added bonus of food trucks and varying routes and mileage to choose from – starting as low as 1 mile! Join me in doing what I love to do and help support the Kids Run RVA program that brings the joy of running to our local youth. Hope to see you there folks!
