Volunteer

There are over 8,000 of us involved with Sports Backers. Collectively we encourage an active lifestyle in all corners of our community. It doesn’t matter if you are filling cups at a water stop, leading a fitness class, or advocating for bike infrastructure, we are all part of the same team. Together we each contribute to the magic that makes our nationally recognized programs and events come to life and help our families, friends, and neighbors live actively. No matter how you’re volunteering, you’re helping accomplish our overall goal of making Richmond a place where everyone can enjoy the benefits of an active lifestyle. We need talented people like you to bring smiles and energy to make our community even more vibrant. We love Richmond, and we know you do too, so let’s keep the movement going!

Come volunteer with us! If you’re interested in working at an event like the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k, the Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon, or Dominion Energy Riverrock, you can sign up here, or you can contact our Volunteer Coordinator, Mary Marshall Graeber. Looking to make a deeper impact, learn about our lead volunteer roles. If you’d like to give some time to one of Sports Backers’ programs, you can sign up to help or to receive more information on any of the following.

  • Bike Walk RVA
  • Fitness Warriors
  • Kids On The Move
  • President’s Council, Sports Backers’ young professional group, meets once a month to socialize, network, and discuss ways to give of their time and talents to the community through our events and programs. It’s a great way to meet active people in Richmond, and find people who are passionate about Sports Backers’ work. If you would like to get involved, please contact Megan Capito for more information.
  • With the help of 400 volunteer coaches for our 8k, 10k, half marathon, and marathon training teams, more than 6,000 individuals prepare for these events each year. Our dedicated coaches motivate and inspire participants while providing guidance, expertise, and encouragement.  To learn more about coaching, please contact Mara George.
