Bellevue Elementary Wins Inaugural Mayor's Cup Trophy

1,330 kids ages 5-12 participated in this year’s Virginia529 Kids Run, which took place in conjunction with the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by Kroger on April 13. As part of the event, the inaugural Mayor’s Cup was awarded to the City of Richmond school with the highest percentage of students participating on race day in the Kids Run, and this year’s winner was Bellevue Elementary. In addition to earning the trophy (and bragging rights) for the next year, Bellevue’s run club will receive $1,000 to put towards the purchase of new equipment.

Bellevue also hosted a pep rally and celebration featuring a visit from Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney, who officially presented run club members with the Mayor’s Cup and congratulated them on their awesome accomplishments. Take a look at the highlights of the celebration in the video below!

Next up for Kids Run RVA is the Ragnar Trail Richmond relay at Pocahontas State Park on April 26-27. Kids Run RVA is the official event charity and will have two teams taking part that have been raising funds for months to support Kids Run RVA. Though each team initially commits to raising $2,600 as part of their participation, they’ve totaled a combined $13,500!

What does $2600 amount to for Kids Run RVA?

$2600 = 13 school buses bringing kids to a running event

$2600 = 52 pairs of running shoes for kids in need

$2600 = 173 kids running their very first race

To help illustrate the importance of this support, in the 2019 Virginia529 Kids Run, 771 participants were from Kids Run RVA run clubs at Title I schools throughout the Richmond region. There were an additional 296 middle and high school students from 16 area schools affiliated with Kids Run RVA that took part in the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k at a reduced entry rate. These numbers show how Kids Run RVA is creating opportunities and making a lasting impact on the overall well-being of kids across RVA! The partnership and participation in Ragnar Trail Richmond will help achieve our goal of providing even more opportunities to RVA’s youngest runners!
