CarMax Tacky Light Run Celebrates 10th Running on Dec. 10; Event Registration Now Open

Registration now open for one of RVA’s favorite holiday traditions

RICHMOND, VA – The CarMax Tacky Light Run is celebrating ’10 Years of Tacky’ with the 10th running of the event on Saturday, December 10, and registration is now open for the holiday-themed fun run at www.sportsbackers.org. Chesterfield County’s Walton Park neighborhood, one of the region’s most festive collections of holiday lights, will once again host the event.

CarMax Tacky Light Run logoLaunched in 2013, the CarMax Tacky Light Run was an immediate hit with participants for combining tacky holiday lights, one of Richmond’s favorite traditions, with a celebration of active living. Over 38,000 people have taken part in the event in that time, walking, jogging, and running through a tacky winter wonderland of lights, decorations, music, and festive fun.

The run will start and finish at Mid-lothian Mines Park, which will feature a special snowflake theme as part of the 10-year celebration. The Walton Park course includes thousands of tacky holiday lights, along with elaborate decorations, neighborhood cheer zones, seasonal music, and plenty of photo opportunities along the route.

“For 10 years now, the CarMax Tacky Light Run has delighted participants and spectators from all over the Richmond region and beyond,” said Leslie Parpart, Director of Community Relations for CarMax. “We are honored to once again be the lead sponsor for this exciting event and look forward to sharing in the festivities with this year’s participants.”

“The CarMax Tacky Light Run provides a unique opportunity to walk and run through Walton Park for an up-close view of some amazing holiday decorations, and we’re striving to create another can’t-miss event this year,” said Meghan Keogh, Director of Events for Sports Backers. “We are all about inspiring people to be active and the CarMax Tacky Light Run is the perfect way to celebrate Richmond’s active community and tacky light traditions.”

Sports Backers invests in the future of active living in the Richmond region through youth programs by providing the resources kids need to be successful, whether that be a pair of running shoes for a child in need, covering the cost of bus transportation for run club participants to attend one of our signature events, or providing a scholarship to a promising student-athlete. Donations to Sports Backers Youth Programs make it possible for Sports Backers to support the most important part of the community – our kids.
