historic first: allianz richmond marathon sells out all three races

Runners cross the famous downhill finish at the Allianz Richmond Marathon.
21,200 participants to take part in richmond’s biggest race weekend ever

RICHMOND, VA – For the first time in its 48-year history, the Allianz Richmond Marathon race weekend has completely sold out across all three distances — the marathon, CarMax Richmond Half Marathon, and the VCU Health Richmond 8k. A total of 21,200 runners and walkers will take to the streets in downtown Richmond on Saturday, November 15, marking a milestone moment for “America’s Friendliest Marathon.”

The final piece of the sellout puzzle was delivered this past weekend as the VCU Health Richmond 8k reached its 5,000-participant cap, completing the unprecedented trifecta. The surge in registrations underscores Richmond’s growing reputation as one of the nation’s most beloved running destinations and as a city where energy, community pride, and a scenic course come together for an unforgettable experience.

“To say this year’s Allianz Richmond Marathon weekend is going to be exciting would be an understatement,” said Meghan Keogh, Race Director. “The demand to run Richmond continues to amaze us, but we’re not surprised. Runners know Richmond delivers something special, a fast course, an incredible crowd, and a community that shows up in every way. Thanks to our volunteers, sponsors, and local partners, this city has become a must-run destination on the national stage. We can’t wait to deliver an unforgettable race day experience.”

Runners still hoping to participate can join a waiting list for any of the three distances. Those on the list will be notified if a spot becomes available and will have a limited time to complete their registration. The waiting list will remain open until October 30, the final deadline for deferring entries.

Two runners celebrate finishing the Allianz Richmond Mraathon.

A limited number of VCU Health Richmond 8k charity entries are also available. Fundraisers who commit to raising $750 in support of Kids On The Move and Active Living Leadership ALL Stars will receive a complimentary entry into the 8k on November 15, 2025. Spots are first-come, first-served.
