Kicking Off The Fall Season with Kids On The Move: A New Season of fun and fitness
Written by: Noelle Hart, Youth Programs & Customer Support Coordinator

As the new school year begins, Kids On The Move is thrilled to kick off the 2024 fall season of our running and fitness clubs, bringing fun and fitness back into the lives of our students. We recognize the significance that the first few weeks of school hold. It’s the perfect time to get our kiddos back into their routines, not just academically, but also physically. As the new school year brings its usual chaos, supplemental programs play a crucial role in offering students a positive outlet as they transition back into a structured environment. That’s where Kids On The Move comes in!
We hosted our official Fall Season Coaches Kick-Off at the University of Richmond Robins Stadium on September 18th, and expect the majority of our clubs to be kicked-off by the second week of October.
Kids On The Move is excited to share that we’re launching 53 running and fitness clubs this fall, with 8 additional groups set to join us in the spring! This represents a fantastic 9% growth in club sites compared to last year! Be sure to check out our Kids On The Move Club Map to explore the diverse range of clubs and their locations across the Greater Richmond region!
As we celebrate the exciting growth of our Kids On The Move clubs this season, we can’t help but reflect on one of last year’s most magical events. Last fall, 30 Kids On The Move clubs lit up the night at the CarMax Tacky Light Run and the Twilight 1-Mile Fun Run, thanks to the generous support of Wells Fargo.

Did you know that, through our partnership with Richmond Road Runners Club, Kids On The Move offers mini-grants to help fund youth fitness programs and school-based running events? These grants, which are being sent out to schools and communities across the Greater Richmond region, allow clubs to purchase equipment, provide healthy snacks, reward students for their efforts, and host exciting running/fitness events that get kids moving! Within just the first month of the 2024-2025 school year, we’ve already awarded $7,671 in grants to 22 schools, helping to inspire a new generation of active, healthy kids!

The Twilight 1-Mile Kids Run, introduced for the first time last year, was a massive hit with the kiddos! Imagine running through a magical trail decked out in dazzling holiday lights and festive décor, only to cross the finish line under an arch of flurrying snow! The fun didn’t stop there—after the race, kids got to enjoy the post-race festival, a.k.a. the North Pole, complete with music, treats, and lots of holiday cheer. We’re expecting even more clubs to join in this fall, and we can’t wait for another unforgettable night of festive fitness!
As we kick off another great season of Kids On The Move, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our incredible sponsors and donors, dedicated coaches, and incredible community! Your unwavering commitment and support make all the difference in our mission to promote active living among our youth. Together, we are creating vibrant opportunities for kids to thrive, stay healthy, and make lasting memories. Thank you for being an essential part of our journey—let’s continue to inspire and empower the next generation to embrace fitness and fun!
