RICHMOND, VA – The Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by Kroger delivered another unforgettable race day as nearly 25,000 participants filled the iconic Monument Avenue for the 26th running of RVA’s biggest block party. Now in its fourth consecutive year of growth, the race continues to solidify its place as a Richmond tradition. Festivities began at 8 a.m. with the Atlantic Union Bank 10k Mini, a youth event for kids ages 4 to 12 that welcomed 1,400 enthusiastic young runners. At 8:30 a.m., the main event kicked off with the first waves of the 10k hitting the streets. For another exciting year, the race also hosted the Collegiate Running Association (CRA) 10k Road Race National Championships, attracting more than 1,700 college athletes who competed for prize money provided by the CRA.

Henry Haase, 21, of Raleigh-Durham, NC and current cross-country standout at the University of Richmond, took first place with a time of 30:31. He finished ahead of Nate Jennings who came in at 30:43. Haase is a junior at UR. He’s a graduate of Riverside High School. Last year he finished 3rd in the CRA 10k Road Race National Championships.

In the women’s race, Richmond native, Sophia King, 29, crossed the finish line first with a time of 33:38. King attended the University of Connecticut where she swam at the collegiate level. She graduated from Matoaca High School. In 2023 she took 7th at the CRA 10k Road Race National Championships. She qualified for the 2024 Olympic Team Trials in the Women’s Marathon. Many of the Atlantic Union Bank 10k Mini participants take part in regular programming from Kids On The Move, a Sports Backers program that promotes physical activity to youth throughout the Richmond region. The program emphasizes making exercise enjoyable and sustainable, helping kids develop healthy habits early on. Currently, Kids On The Move supports 65 run clubs in area schools, engaging over 3,000 children in daily and weekly fitness activities. Sports Backers Youth Programs and the VCU Massey Cancer Center are the official event charity partners of the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by Kroger.

This year, VCU Massey Cancer Center marked their 20th anniversary as the 10k’s Charity Partner and raised an impressive $187,580 through the Massey Challenge. Their fundraising effort included 45 teams and 343 individual fundraisers, with 218 first-time participants and 2,527 unique donors. Donations are still being accepted and can be counted toward the final total by giving at MasseyChallenge.com through May 15.

The Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k is renowned for its electric atmosphere and unmatched community spirit. Each year, Sports Backers spotlight on-course entertainment as a key part of the race day experience. This year, more than 15 groups—including local bands, cheer squads, and lively porch parties—joined in the fun as part of the 10k Spirit Contest presented by The Richmond Experience. Cash prizes were awarded in categories such as Best Porch Party, Judges’ Choice, Most Spirited, and Best Theme. Beyond the official contest, thousands of enthusiastic spectators lined the course, turning the entire route into a celebration of movement, music, and motivation.

This was a special year for Sports Backers, as it was the final Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k with Executive Director, Jon Lugbill at the helm. Jon is retiring in June after 32 years. He was the driving force behind the creation of the 10k. To celebrate his impact at Sports Backers, he participated for the first time and finished with a time of 52:11.
