10,000 participants to run Richmond’s signature fall half
RICHMOND, VA – The CarMax Richmond Half Marathon has reached its 10,000-participant capacity, officially selling out nearly 10 weeks before runners hit the streets on Saturday, November 15. Now in its 48th running, the Allianz Richmond Marathon remains the cornerstone of Richmond’s fall tradition, joined by the Half Marathon and VCU Health Richmond 8k. Together, the three races showcase the spirit and excitement that make Richmond’s race weekend one of the region’s most popular running traditions.
CarMax Richmond Half Marathon sell out follows allianz richmond marathon registration success
The half marathon sellout follows the Allianz Richmond Marathon, which reached capacity in late August—well ahead of previous years. Together, both races highlight how interest in Richmond’s premier race weekend continues to grow. Runners from across the country are drawn to the combination of a fast, scenic course and enthusiastic community support. Neighborhood block parties, live music, and thousands of cheering spectators add to the festive atmosphere that has helped the event earn its reputation as “America’s Friendliest Half Marathon.”
“This year marks my first as Event Director, and after 19 years with Sports Backers, it’s incredibly meaningful to see the Allianz Richmond Marathon and CarMax Richmond Half Marathon sell out earlier than ever before,” said Meghan Keogh, Race Director. “Richmond’s reputation as ‘America’s Friendliest Marathon’ continues to grow, and the enthusiasm from runners shows just how much people want to be part of the community we’ve built here. It’s an honor for our race to play such a central role in what feels like the nation’s next great running boom.”
Runners still hoping to take part in the CarMax Richmond Half Marathon can join a waiting list. Those on the list will be notified if a spot becomes available and will have to complete their registration in the allotted time. The list will remain open until October 30, the deadline for switching distances and deferrals.
There is also a limited number of half marathon charity entries available. Fundraisers will commit to raising $750 in support of Kids On The Move and Active Living Leadership ALL Stars and, in return, receive a complimentary entry into the CarMax Richmond Half Marathon on November 15, 2025. Hurry, because this is first-come, first-serve!
The VCU Health Richmond 8k is over halfway full and is also expected to sell out ahead of race day For more details on race weekend, visit www.richmondmarathon.org.
