Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon welcomed record-breaking participant numbers

RICHMOND, VA – The Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon saw a historic year for participation with 21,309 runners taking part in all three races combined, and tens of thousands more spectators lining the streets to cheer on runners as they made their way to the riverfront finish in downtown Richmond. The Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon reached capacity at 6,200 participants, and the CarMax Richmond Half Marathon sold out at 10,000.
“We are blown away by the participation in this year’s event,” said Megan Schultz, Race Director for the Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon. “We’ve known for a while that we’re truly ‘America’s Friendliest Marathon’ but to see that resonating with the running community on a national level is so special, and truly something we can attribute to our community, volunteers, and everyone involved in race day.”
Robert Mazzanti of Richmond, VA took first place in the 2024 Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon. This was another big year for Mazzanti, he finished third in 2023. He finished ahead of Jonathan Coleman of Chicago, IL, and Zachary Vaslow of Greensboro, NC. Mazzanti finished in a time of 2:25:12, while Coleman came in at 2:29:58, followed by Vaslow in 2:31:07.
Allison Baum was the first female to cross the finish line, followed by Katherine Engel and Elise Molinaro. Baum, of Bethesda, MD, finished in a time of 2:46:30, followed by Engel, of Washington, DC, in 2:47:30, and Molinaro, of East Stroudsburg, PA in 2:48:40.
In the CarMax Richmond Half Marathon, Jack Ikenberry, of Mechanicsville, VA, took the men’s title in a time of 1:07:01, followed by John Vodacek also of Woodbury, MN, in a time of 1:07:01.27, and Mitchell Rome, of Charleston, SC, in a time of 1:07:53. On the women’s side, Anna Workman took first, followed by Bridget Stacy and Ave Grosenheider. Workman, of Charlottesville, VA, crossed the finish line in a time of 1:16:27, while Stacy, of Henrico, VA, finished in 1:18:21, followed by Grosenheider, of Richmond, VA, in 1:19:35.

In the VCU Health Richmond 8k, Tyler French of Alexandria, VA, crossed the finish line first ahead of Mason Love of Fairfax, VA, and Nicholas Emmert of Bumpass, VA. French’s winning time was 24:08, followed by Love at 24:39 and Emmert at 24:41.
Rachel Ward took first in the women’s race, followed by Laura Labuschaigne in second and Hannah Ballowe in third. Ward, of Crozet, VA, had a time of 26:06, while Labuschaigne, of Henrico, VA, came in at 27:20, followed by Ballowe, of Mechanicsville, VA, at 27:49.
The 2024 event also included the fifth edition of the Richmond Challenge, in which participants took part in one race distance in person and have the month of November to complete the other two distances virtually. Full results are available at www.RichmondMarathon.org.
The 2025 Allianz Partners Richmond Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, November 15. The event capacity for each distance will remain the same following the sellout year; 6,200 in the full, 10,000 in the CarMax Richmond Half Marathon, and 5,000 in the VCU Health Richmond 8k. A special $90 marathon entry fee, $80 half marathon entry fee, and $35 8k entry fee is available through Thursday, November 21.
