Mary Marshall graeber

Mary Marshall Graeber is the friendly force behind the volunteers who power Sports Backers events. As Volunteer Coordinator, she connects people with roles they love, works closely with the Events Team, and makes sure every event is fully staffed and ready for race day. She manages volunteer outreach and recruitment, supports Event Committee members at larger events, and keeps the volunteer experience organized and upbeat. Mary Marshall thrives on collaboration and communication, and since she genuinely loves people, the role fits her perfectly.

Outside of work, Mary Marshall can be found walking with friends and her dog, Lilly, taking Pilates and yoga classes, soaking up time along the James River, or enjoying a perfect beach day complete with an ocean swim and a good book.

Favorite Sports Backers Event? “The marathon because it is the event that we need the most volunteer support for and one that I work the hardest on recruiting volunteers. I love getting to communicate and talk to some group leaders that have been supporting the race for 20 plus years. It is amazing the people that come out year after year to the same water stop or same course marshal location. Our volunteers are totally invested in ‘their’ part of the course/event and would not miss race day! It is truly amazing to see the volunteers come out race weekend to support our community.”

Favorite non-Sports Backers Event? “My husband and I don’t miss going to the Richmond Folk Festival every year for the incredible variety of music, wonderful diverse crowd, and the fact that I get to be on Brown’s Island and NOT be working!!”
