River City Half and 5k FAQs
Registration
Q: What happens if the half or 5k reach capacity?
When the half or 5k reaches full capacity, registration for that event will close and a Waiting List will open. Waiting List members will become notified of open spots as they become available. Once notified, you will have 24 hours to claim your spot and complete registration. The Waiting List will only be available through February 28 (while deferrals are still allowed).
Additionally, a limited number of Charity Entries will be offered for each distance ($100 for 5k / $200 for half). Charity entries will support one of our nine event charities. Please email [email protected] if you’re interested in purchasing a charity entry.

Q: What are the age requirements for each race?
Virginia Credit Union River City Half: At least 12 years old
River City 5k: At least 6 years old
Q: Can I make changes to my registration?
In order to make changes to your registration, please follow these directions. Email [email protected] with any questions.

Course and Event Day
Q: Are there course time limits?
The Half Marathon has a 3.5 hour time limit. The 5k does not have a limit.
Q: Is the course certified?
Yes, the course is certified by the USATF.
Q: Will there be bag check?
Yes, bag check will be offered on race morning within the Post Race Festival, about a 1/2 mile walk from the start line. You are responsible for providing your own bag and you must attach the tear-off tag on your race bib to your bag. Once you have completed your race, you can return to the bag check area to pick up your bag.
Q: Can I use a stroller or wear a baby carrier?
No, strollers and baby carriers are not permitted on course for either the half marathon or the 5k.
Q: Where can I park on race morning?
There is ample free parking available on the U of R campus. You will need to decide whether you prefer to park near the start line or finish festival area—they are located about 1/2 mile apart. View the Virginia Credit Union River City Half Start/Finish & Parking Map >
Q. How do I register as a spirit group?
To be a registered on-course spirit group, fill out this form. Additional details will be sent to registrants as we near event day!
