Dominion Energy Riverrock Announces schedule of events

Festival kicks off on Brown’s Island, May 16 – 18

RICHMOND, VA – Dominion Energy Riverrock returns to Brown’s Island this weekend, May 16–18, for its 17th year as the nation’s premier outdoor sports and music festival. The event is free to attend, with registration available for trail runs, mountain biking, yoga, dog jumping, and more at www.riverrockrva.org. The festival is produced through a partnership between Sports Backers and Venture Richmond.

This year’s festival features a full schedule of events each day, capped off by free evening concerts from headlining musical acts. On Friday, May 16, Garden Variety String Band will kick things off at 6:30 p.m., followed by Mountain Grass Unit at 8:00 p.m. Saturday’s lineup includes Mikaela Davis at 6:15 p.m. and Andy Frasco & the U.N. at 8:00 p.m. The festival will close on Sunday, May 18, with a performance by Suggesting Rhythm at 3:30 p.m. Additional local and national acts will perform throughout the weekend on the Brown’s Island stage. The festival opens on Friday, May 16 at 5:00 p.m. In addition to live music and food, Friday evening activities include the Subaru Ultimate Air Dogs competition, the Belle Isle Blitz 5K, the MTB Time Trial, Boulder Bash, slackline highline, and a brand-new Dog Agility event in the Tredegar parking lot.

Day two, Saturday, May 17, features a wide range of participatory and spectator events, including the James River Scramble 10kish, Yoga presented by Reign Storm, MTB Enduro, Kayak Boatercross, SUP Cross, Cup of the East Kayak Water Polo tournament, Boulder Bash Finals, and plenty of free demos across the Adventure Zones.

The final day of the festival, Sunday, May 18, offers even more activities for outdoor enthusiasts, such as the Bust the Banks Half Marathon, Adventure Race, Downriver Paddle, Yoga presented by Reign Storm, Boulder Blitz, Cup of the East Kayak Polo finals, and additional Subaru Ultimate Air Dogs and Dog Agility competitions. The festival concludes at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday evening.

During the weekend, attendees can visit Adventure Zones located throughout the festival footprint to try free hands-on activities including kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, slacklining, bouldering, skimboarding, guided group hikes, bike demos, and more. These activities are open to all ages.

The festival grounds include Brown’s Island, Tredegar Street, the Tredegar parking lot, 7th Street, Byrd Street, and Kanawha Plaza. A diverse selection of regional food trucks will be on-site, featuring popular vendors such as Goatocado, Timber Pizza Company, Gelati Celesti, International Grill, Boka Tako Truck, Espresso A GoGo, Blue Ridge Island Noodles, Mark’s Airborne Kettle Corn, Strawberry St. Event Concessions, Nolia’s Lemonade, American Fruity Smoothie, Mimi’s Ice N’ Custard, Pretty & Proud, Flavor Fusion, 1115 Mobile Kitchen, and Westray’s Finest Ice Cream.

Craft beverages will also be available, including Hardywood beers (featuring the exclusive Riverrock Pale Ale), Bold Rock Hard Seltzer, and Sierra Nevada’s non-alcoholic Trail Pass. Most sponsor activations and vendors will be located on Brown’s Island and in the Tredegar parking lot, but additional offerings can be found throughout the festival footprint. Online registration for all participatory events will remain open throughout the weekend. Participants can register online and pick up their packets on-site at the start area for each respective event. All registrants will receive an event T-shirt and a drink ticket.
