montclair and mulroy fly to the finish to win “america’s friendliest marathon”
RICHMOND, VA – The 48th running of the Allianz Richmond Marathon marked a highlight year, welcoming the largest participant field in the event’s history. More than 21,000 runners took part across the Allianz Richmond Marathon, CarMax Richmond Half Marathon, and VCU Health Richmond 8k, each distance reaching full capacity well in advance of race day. Tens of thousands of spectators lined Richmond’s streets, creating an electric atmosphere as athletes made their way to the iconic riverfront finish downtown.
The marathon reached its cap of 6,200 participants, the CarMax Richmond Half Marathon sold out at 10,000, and the VCU Health Richmond 8k welcomed 5,000 runners, underscoring the continued growth of Richmond’s dynamic running community and the region’s reputation as a premier race destination.
“We are awestruck by the response to this year’s event,” said Meghan Keogh, Race Director for the Allianz Richmond Marathon. “After spending the last 20 years working on this race, experiencing my first year as Race Director during a historic sellout is incredibly meaningful. Richmond’s running community, our volunteers, and the thousands of residents who show up to cheer every year are the heartbeat of this event. Their energy is what makes us ‘America’s Friendliest Marathon,’ and seeing that spirit resonate with runners from across the country is something I’ll never forget.”
