A scenic climb feels a little lighter—and a lot more fun—when the community shows up. That’s where you come in. At the Virginia Credit Union River City Half & 5k, the Rally for River City Contest gives friends, families, neighborhoods, and local groups the chance to cheer on participants when they need it most. Turn your block, lawn, or sidewalk into a high-spirited cheer zone. Bring the hype, the music, and the motivation that lift participants over every hill and help them soak in the beautiful views along the way. Let’s add some heart to every mile!
How It Works
- Register your spirit group by February 14.
- Collect your complimentary cheering supplies and official sign at the Sports Backers office ahead of the event (more details to come).
- Go all out on Saturday, March 7!
The Prizes
Judges will be looking for the groups with the most energy and enthusiasm for the duration of the race, so have fun with it! Feel free to use song, dance, music, megaphones, costumes, banners, signs, bubbles, or anything else you can think of to cheer on the Virginia Credit Union River City Half and 5k participants! This contest aims to celebrate the best of the best by awarding the following accolades and cash prizes:
Best Spirit Group = $250
Honorable Mention = $100
Honorable Mention = $100
Most Spirited Charity Partner = $250*
*This prize will be awarded to one of our official Charity Partners who brings the biggest energy on race day!
A Few Things to Keep In Mind
- You must register in advance to be eligible for a prize.
- Groups are eligible to receive up to a $150 reimbursement for party supplies.
- Your Rally for River City sign must be visible to judges during the race.
- Your group must be in the specified location at the specified times. The event lasts from 8:00 a.m. to approximately 11:30 p.m., but times may vary by location.
- There are a limited number of locations along the race course—sign up early!
- You may indicate your location preference when you register. Locations will be designated by Sports Backers.
- You must not interfere with the course or the race participants at any time.
- For-profit entities are not eligible for prize money.
