What is a dragon boat?

A dragon boat is a 48 foot long boat that weighs approximately 900 pounds.  It is 4 feet wide at the middle and narrows down to 8 inches at the bow and stern. During races and festivals, a colorful dragon head and tail are attached.

How many people are in a dragon boat?

There are 22 total – 20 paddlers (10 rows of 2 per seat), a steersperson in the back and a drummer in the front.

What time of year is dragon boat paddling held?

The paddling season in Virginia runs from May through October.

What does the club supply?

Paddle, life vest and the dragon boat as well as self-confidence, camaraderie, motivation, instruction and coaching.  Paddling a dragon boat is a cost effective way to increase mental focus and physical fitness.

What do I do if I want to try paddling?

To paddle as our Guest contact us: [email protected]. Your first TWO (2) paddling sessions are FREE, no experience necessary.  Join us on Tuesdays from 6-7:30 p.m.  Guests are always welcome as long as club members have not completely filled the boat for the practice.
