Meet the Team

Emily Monroe "Emilytron"

Emily grew up in Richmond and attended VCU, so there’s no better person to be our go to for all things in the RVA bike community! Before she was destined to be our Community Engagement Coordinator she wanted to be a Princess, or a veterinarian. Instead of kissing frogs, she opted to study reptiles, amphibians, and invertebrates. At Sports Backers she does a lot of research and communicating to make sure that pedestrian and cycling safety is always being considered in our community. Outside of the office she’s hands-on as she works with local groups to make roadways safer for everyone. Emily loves mountain biking and riding Gravel Bikes. Her favorite place to be is near the James River, or on Buttermilk West. On a weekend you might find her on an all-day long bike ride in the woods followed by a stop for some pizza. When she’s not loving all things bike, she’s loving on her two wild Boston Terriers, and her many freshwater shrimp (yes, she has shrimp as pets).

Are you involved with any other groups or organizations outside of work: I work with the Amy D Foundation and like to lend a hand locally wherever I can to elevate cycling in underrepresented populations. That lets me work with all kinds of different small cycling clubs and groups here in Virginia.

Celebrity you’d like to be friends with: If I could time travel a little, I’d like to be BFFs with June Curry, the “Cookie Lady of Afton.” She made such a kind and memorable impact on cyclists in a relatively local way. I’d love to hang out with her and hear her stories.

Song you’re embarrassed to love: Paper Rings by Taylor Swift
