Grace, Giving, and Gratitude for an Active Community

By: Cindy DiCello

It is the season of the 3 G’s – Grace, Giving and Gratitude. Here at Sports Backers we like to take a (quick) break from the frenzy of our fall events and programs to reflect on what the 3 G’s mean to our community. Grace, as defined as “the quality or state of being considerate or thoughtful” for us is about intentionally making an effort to think about others in our everyday interactions with people. They don’t call the Anthem Richmond Marathon ‘America’s Friendliest Marathon’ by accident!

Giving of our time and resources helps provide quality events like the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k and offers access to free fitness activities through our Fitness Warriors program. Through these resources, Sports Backers continues to make RVA a more vibrant and healthy place. As a non-profit and active living advocacy organization, we are committed to creating access to physical activity opportunities for everyone who lives in the region regardless of their zip code. We work together to create connected and safe bikeways, opportunities for kids to be active at school and at home, workplaces that are invested in helping their employees get fit, and communities that are designed to be walkable and accessible.

As we gather with family and friends this Thanksgiving, all of us at Sports Backers want you to know how grateful we are for each of our team members including volunteers, participants, donors, sponsors, and community partners. Our combined efforts are transforming our community into one of the most active in the country. Thank you for all you do!

There are several ways you can support our cause this season:

Consider a donation to Sports Backers in your end-of-year giving plans. You can choose to support one of our programs directly or let us decide where the demand is greatest.

Come out and volunteer for one of our events or programs! We have an array of opportunities to suit your interests. Visit www.sportsbackers.org to learn more.

Join us in an active celebration of Richmond’s tacky holiday light tradition by gathering your friends and family to take part in the CarMax Tacky Light Run in Midlothian on December 12.
