Walmart Biz Bowl Brings Games, Fun, and Competition on September 26

The Walmart Biz Bowl brings corporate teams from all over the Richmond region together for a day of games, fun, and competition on September 26 at River City SportsPlex. It’s a great opportunity to build team spirit with coworkers, network with colleagues from across industries, and demonstrate the importance of employee wellness and physical activity programs–but don’t take our word for it. Hear it directly from some of this year’s participants and find out why they’re taking part! This event is open to all businesses in the Richmond Region, and you can register your team now at https://www.sportsbackers.org/events/biz-bowl/

Terri Thompson, HR Administrative Assistant from HHHunt:

(Q) What made you want to take part in the Walmart Biz Bowl for the first time this year?

(A) The HHHunt Wellness Team has a bi-annual celebration for its current members and those that have recently completed their two-year term on the team. This was the first year that the Biz Bowl had come up on our radar as a potential option for our celebration event and we took advantage of it for several reasons: it just looks like such a good time, locality, marketing opportunities, and alignment with our company value of collaboration (among both our team members and local businesses) and promise to be an engaged community partner by supporting Feed More, the official event charity partner, through the event.

(Q) What are you most looking forward to with this year’s event?

(A) It looks like so much fun! There seem to be a lot of different options our team members can choose from to suit their own taste…the main goal is to celebrate and have fun!

(Q) How does this fit into your overall employee wellness initiatives?

(A) Our wellness initiative observes six pillars of wellness: social, spiritual, financial, emotional, intellectual, and physical. This event will definitely fulfill the social and physical aspects. And again, the event seems to align with our company value of collaboration and promise to be an engaged community partner.

(Q) Why is it important for HHHunt to encourage active living for employees?

(A) HHHunt believes that health and well-being are essential parts of living and are vital to one’s ability to enjoy life and contribute to the world around us. One of our official brand promises is to be employee centered by committing to the well-being of each employee.

(Q) What are the benefits to engaging with other local businesses through events like the Biz Bowl?

(A) Engaging with other local business could open the door for collaboration on projects which would be beneficial for the businesses involved and the local community. It is also an opportunity to find like-minded companies through which we can generate new ideas, enhance our competence, and deliver on our promise to be a provider of quality products and services.

Lynne Wingfield, Employee Wellness Coordinator from Chesterfield County Government and Public Schools:

(Q) What did you most enjoy about the event last year?

(A) I enjoyed seeing our employees from different departments and schools band together to compete and cheer each other on! They started the day not knowing each other and ended the day as friends!

(Q) What are you most looking forward to with this year’s event?

(A) I’m excited about involving more employees hoping the experience will be as fun and fulfilling as last year.

(Q) How does this fit into your overall employee wellness initiatives?

(A) This team activity is a wonderful addition to our comprehensive wellness offerings because it offers our employees an opportunity to be involved in a friendly, team-oriented competition that offers physical activity, strategy, sportsmanship and most of all, laughter (which lowers blood pressure!).

(Q) Why is it important for Chesterfield County to encourage active living for county employees?

(A) We strive to create an environment of wellness that enables our employees to live healthful lifestyles. Focusing on healthy, happy, and productive employees can help us impact the well-being for all who live, work, learn, and play in Chesterfield County.

Lindsey Noble, Accountant from Feed More:

(Q) What made you want to take part in the Walmart Biz Bowl for the second year in a row?

(A) The Feed More team had an absolute blast at last year’s Walmart Biz Bowl and it helped bring us closer together as coworkers! We all really enjoyed our team comradery, the competitive, fun-filled atmosphere and ability to spend time together outside of work. We also loved meeting people from other organizations and learning more about their work.

(Q) Feed More is the official charity partner of the Walmart Biz Bowl. How does your participation help support your mission? What are the benefits to engaging with other local businesses through the Biz Bowl?

(A) We are so very grateful to be the official charity partner of the Walmart Biz Bowl! Last year, this event helped us distribute 632 meals to our Central Virginia neighbors who struggle with hunger. Our participation supports our mission in that we are helping raise awareness about hunger in the communities we serve, while encouraging wellbeing throughout our entire organization. We are helping to drive positive change in the community through integrating health and wellness into our own lives and those we help. Biz Bowl provides the perfect platform to engage with other local businesses and community organizations to create positive partnerships and help strengthen our ability to better serve our neighbors in need.

(Q) What did you most enjoy about the event last year?

(A) There were so many parts of last year’s Biz Bowl we enjoyed–where do I even start?! First, the head-to-head dodge ball tournament is high energy and a great competition. Second, the DJ was on point and got our team motivated and moving with his music. Third, we loved the team spirit competition and spending time with the other teams. An added bonus was that we could showcase our decorating skills, and we had a good time integrating our brand and mission into our team hangout area. Our team had SO much fun and we are super excited to defend our title as the winner of the medium-sized business category this year!

(Q) What are you most looking forward to with this year’s event?

(A) Our team is looking forward to the head-to-head events, connecting with other teams and spending time together outside of work to get the feel goods flowing! It’s super nice to have the opportunity to spend time with coworkers, and members of our leadership team, and “let our hair down.” The Walmart Biz Bowl is something we are all looking forward to and we’re excited to add some new Feed More folks to the mix this year!

(Q) How does this fit into your overall employee wellness initiatives?

(A) At Feed More, wellbeing is one of our core employee values. We value the time spent on our professional and personal endeavors and celebrate the integration of the two. This event not only encourages folks of all fitness levels to join in together, it is also a family-friendly activity that our employees look forward to every year.

(Q) Why is it important to encourage active living for Feed More employees?

(A) Encouraging an active lifestyle is important to Feed More. We value our employees’ health and well-being and understand the important role it plays in our lives, both personally and professionally. Feed More wants to inspire employees to be well rounded and the Walmart Biz Bowl is a fantastic and fun way to do just that!
