Get Active Group of the Week: Richmond Ultimate
Each week, we'll be highlighting a different Active Group from around RVA – this week's group is Richmond Ultimate, an ultimate frisbee league that promotes the sport around Richmond and offers play at all skill levels.

In looking across Richmond for an interesting way to work out we found the ultimate sport – Ultimate Frisbee.
Ultimate is a sport that combines the physical aspects of football with the athletic movement of soccer, and Richmond Ultimate is one of the area's adult Ultimate leagues. Seven players from each team line up on separate ends of the field and play begins with a high flying toss of the disc to the opposing team.
This sport is a test of endurance and really favors individuals with quickness, agility, and clever cutting tactics. It is, however, a team sport that requires a high level of teamwork to be successful.
On a Wednesday afternoon in Dorey Park, the Richmond Ultimate Summer League played its divisional finals matches. Teams comprised of players with varying skill levels put on their respective team colors, laced up their cleats, and took the field.
In this league teams are co-ed and there is a strong sense of camaraderie and friendship within each team. There were also plenty of four-legged friends out to the watch game, and they ran their own game of sorts, chasing after each other and an occasional frisbee.
To join this dynamic group of athletes a big cooler of ice water and a warm smile is a must on the hot summer afternoons. Make sure to get a nice warm up before going on the field because you are guaranteed to get your body moving quickly.
On the day of the divisional finals all the team colors were represented: Blue, green, teal, purple, pink, silver, orange, yellow, lime, and maroon. The competition was fierce and there was face paint, sweat, and a lot of cheering.
While every squad exhibited a sense of team spirit, the Lime crew stood out as the liveliest in the bunch. They were a force to be reckoned with and took our top spot for best team spirit.
