Sports Backers Marathon FAQs

Q: Is the course certified?

Yes! The official course at Dorey Park is USA Track & Field certified.

Q: How will timing on the official course work?

We will be offering chip timing for those who choose to participate on the official course at Dorey Park. You will have a timing tag on the back of your bib like normal and we will have a timing mat at the start and finish to read your chip time. In order to have an official time, you will also be required to utilize the RaceJoy app, a GPS tracking app, that we will provide for free as a part of your race registration. This will provide us the additional splits needed to validate your chip time.

If you are not interested in a certified time, you can still participate on the official course and upload your results to RaceJoy or here to be part of the event leaderboard.

If you are not able to participate on the official course, complete the virtual event and submit your results via RaceJoy or manually to be part of the event leaderboard.

Q: What is RaceJoy and how do I use it?

RaceJoy is a GPS tracking app that will be provided as a free download as a part of your race registration. It will deliver real time performance information to you, including GPS progress alerts as you hit milestones along the course that includes pace. In addition, your family and friends will be able to download the app in order to track you live, receive progress alerts and send you cheers and words of encouragement along the way. In order to use the app, please follow these instructions.

Q: What is the cancellation/refund policy for the event?

Entry fees are non-refundable, even in the case of a race postponement, cancellation, updated race format, and/or if you are unable to participate; race numbers and entries cannot be transferred to another person. No exceptions. This means once we have received your entry, you will not receive a refund if you cannot participate, and you may not give or sell your number or timing tag to anyone else.

Q: Once I’m registered, can I switch races?

There will be no refunds and no transfer of entries from person-to-person. You may switch between the three events (8k, half, and full) for a $10 fee plus the difference in entry fee at the time of the switch. If you are already signed up for one race and want to switch to the other, you may do so online through Sunday, February 28.

The distance of the event you are switching to/from is a non-factor in determining what you will owe when you switch events. The determining factors are what you have already paid and the current price of the event you are switching to. If you have already paid more than the current price of the event you are switching to, you will only owe the $10 transfer fee. If you have paid less than the current entry fee of the event you are switching to, you will owe the difference in what you have paid and the current entry fee + the $10 transfer fee. You will not receive a refund of any entry fees.

Q: How do I register for the Sports Backers Challenge?

You can simply select the Sports Backers Challenge when registering. If you have already registered for one of the events of the Sports Backers Marathons, but would now like to participate in the Sports Backers Challenge, you can go back in and register for the other two events. We will make sure to mark you as part of the challenge on the back end.

Q: Can I defer my entry to next year?

You may defer your registration from the 2021 Sports Backers Marathon, Half Marathon or 5k to the 2022 event for a fee. The fee is $20 for the Marathon and $10 for the Half Marathon or 5k. You may only defer to and from the same event distance. Deferred registrations may not be transferred to another person. Refunds will not be issued under any circumstances. All deferrals must be completed by Sunday, February 28.

Q: Can I make changes to my registration?

If you need to make a change to your registration, you may do so online. You have the ability to change the following online until Sunday, Sunday February 28:

  • Predicted time
  • Gender
  • Shirt size
  • Shipping Address
  • Birthdate
  • E-mail address

Q: Are there course time limits?

There are no course time limits. The official course is open daily from Friday, March 12 to Sunday, March 14 from 6am to 4pm.

Q: Will there be bag check?

Bag check will not be offered at this event.

Q: Can I switch my race distance on-site at Dorey Park?

No, we will not be able to provide race switches on-site at Dorey Park. All race switches must be made in advance and can only be done through Sunday, February 28.
