New Fitness Warriors Classes Expand Active Living Opportunities to More People

The strength of Sports Backers’ Fitness Warriors program is that we have an amazing group of community leaders that continue to show up weekly to provide active living opportunities to their fellow residents. They are dedicated to being true agents of change for the communities in and around Richmond that need it the most! Due to their hard work we currently offer 60 FREE weekly fitness classes across the Richmond region!
Our newest cohort of Fitness Warriors started leading their classes in early October and continues to forge a new path for the program. Irma and Melisa both started out as participants in the program. Now they lead their own weekly classes every Tuesday and bring a whole new dynamic to the program. Both women are bilingual, offering new active living opportunities to Richmond’s Hispanic communities. You can catch Irma’s class at Sacred Heart Center (1400 Perry Street) at 5:30 p.m. and Melisa at the Southwood Resource Center – Pool House (1742 Clarkson Road) at 6 p.m.
Another new Warrior, Sharon Adams, has plenty of experience keeping people healthy in her role as a nurse and is always seeking new ways to give back to her community. As a resident of Sussex County, she knows all too well the challenges that face rural towns and wanted to change that. As a result, Sharon is starting our first class in Jarratt, Virginia. She leads her free weekly class on Mondays at Jerusalem Baptist Church in Jarrett (12492 Kientz Rd.) on Mondays from 5 p.m.-6 p.m.
As impressive as that is, that only makes up three of our 10 new classes! Here are some additional locations and days for you to check out. - Stronger than Yesterday 3:00 – 4:00pm at Chippenham Place Apartments – Clubhouse
- Cardio- Flex 5:30 – 6:30pm at Pathways- Va. INC
- HIIT Fit 6:00 – 7:00pm at VCU Health Hub at 25th
- Strong Body, Strong Mind 6:15 – 7:15pm at Randolph Community Center
- HIIT IT with Crystal 6:30 – 7:30pm at Cross Pointe Church of the Nazarene
- Self Love Fitness 8 6:30 – 7:30pm at Antioch Baptist Church
