Mayor Stoney, City Councilman Jones join Sports Backers to celebrate Active Aging Week on Sept. 24th

RICHMOND, VA – Sports Backers, in partnership with a coalition of community health and active living organizations, will be joined by Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney and City Councilman Michael Jones to host a ‘Flashback Field Day’ on September 24 at Southside Community Center (6255 Old Warwick Road). The free community event kicks off at 10:00am with field day activities for adults age 55 and older and will also feature an awards ceremony and post-field day celebration.

Active Aging Week is inspired by the International Council on Active Aging and includes activities, workshops, and forums that promote a proactive approach to health, wellness, and active living. The main goal of Active Aging Week is to celebrate and engage seniors in communities throughout the Richmond region.

“Sports Backers’ mission is to inspire active living in residents of all ages and we’re very excited to partner with Senior Connections to kick off Richmond’s Active Aging Week and highlight the role that seniors play in building active communities,” said Jacki Quinlan, Director of Community Outreach for Sports Backers. “Flashback Field Day will be a great opportunity to celebrate active living and show the importance of physical activity for residents over the age of 55.”

Active Aging Week runs from September 23-29 with events planned across the Richmond region. Flashback Field Day is a partnership between Sports Backers, the City of Richmond, Anthem Healthkeepers, CareMore Health, the YMCA of Greater Richmond, Senior Connections, and United Healthcare. The event is free and open to the public, with field-day activities focused on seniors. Activities will take place from 10:00am-11:45am, with the awards and celebration, featuring Mayor Stoney, a live DJ, and refreshments, set for 11:45am-1:00pm.
