Schedule of events announced for RVA Streets Alive! on Saturday, June 21

The 2nd annual RVA Streets Alive! festival is set for Saturday, June 21 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sports Backers, the Mayor’s Healthy Richmond Campaign, and the Richmond City Health District have partnered on this open streets festival, which will close a downtown route on East Broad Street and Brook Road to vehicular traffic to allow residents and visitors to use these streets to be active through running, walking, biking, and many other physical activities. Support for RVA Streets Alive! comes from the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation as part of a grant to Sports Backers to help improve and sustain healthy physical activity levels for adults, particularly in underserved communities.

To help celebrate Richmond’s efforts to become a more active region, Richmond Mayor Dwight C. Jones will be participating in a walking tour of the course meeting at 1st and Broad Streets at 11:00a.m., making many stops along the way to participate in select vendor activities.

“This outdoor health fair supports the continued efforts of the Healthy Richmond Campaign to address the concerns of health disparities in our community and celebrate our daily efforts to improve the physical and economic well being of our entire city,” says Mayor Jones. “I applaud the local community partners working with us to provide resources to our residents on ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle.”

More than 60 vendors will be on-site offering health and fitness information and interactive demonstrations. Click here for a full schedule of events and activities.
