AT&T Dash for the Cash Participant Announced

DashfortheCash201563-year-old Tom Visotsky has been selected for an opportunity to win $2,500 on Saturday, March 28 as the 2015 Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k AT&T Dash for the Cash participant.

Visotsky was chosen at random from over 23,000 people who were registered for the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k as of the February 1 contest deadline. Based on the predicted time he listed on his race entry form and his past performance in the event, he will be given a head start on the course and will attempt to cross the finish line before any of the other athletes running in the full 10k (6.2 miles). If he does outrun the rest of the field to the finish line, he will win the $2,500 cash prize. If another runner finishes first, the $2,500 will be donated to the VCU Massey Cancer Center.

Visotsky said he never expected to be picked to participate and was a “little nervous” upon receiving the call given that he was in the process of recovering from an injury to his Achilles tendon. After consulting with his physician and getting the “thumbs up”, Visotsky is now excited for the challenge.

Visotsky, who resides in Midlothian, is a past president of the Virginia Society of CPAs and operated his own staffing firm for twenty-five years.  He came out of retirement in June 2014 and now serves as finance and business manager at First Baptist Church, which is located on the 10k course at the intersection of Monument and Boulevard – so he’s expecting a lot of support there as he makes his way to the finish line.

This will be his ninth time participating in the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k, and he finished the 2014 event in 46:16. “I love how well-organized the 10k is and I really enjoy all the crowd support,” says Visotsky. “Having people cheer for you throughout the race is great motivation, and the flat course is ideal for setting a PR!”

This is the 11th year of the AT&T Dash for the Cash contest. In the 10 previous years, the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k has seen the contestant win eight times.

Registration is still open for the 2015 Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by MARTIN’S, to be held on March 28, and a total of 40,000 registrants will be accepted. The registration fee is $40 through February 28. The Virginia 529 Kids Run costs $20 through February 28. Registration is available online at www.sportsbackers.org.
