RICHMOND, VA – Time is winding down to sign up for this year’s YMCA 10k Training Team! The training team is a 10-week training program held at the 20 local YMCA branches that began on Saturday, January 21 and culminates with the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k presented by MARTIN’S on Saturday, March 31. It is a fun and sociable way for people to ready themselves to run or walk the 6.2-mile course.
Participants receive a training booklet with the complete 10-week training schedule. Group runs at the local YMCA branches are be held once a week on Saturdays. The other days of the week, participants are on their own to follow the training schedule. Individuals of all levels interested in running, jogging, or walking are encouraged to participate.
The registration fee of $55 includes entry in the Ukrop’s Monument Avenue 10k, a YMCA 10k Training Team T-shirt and participation in this highly successful training program manned by dedicated coaches.
Experienced Coach Dan Blankenship leads the YMCA 10k Training Team. His extensive background in running includes finishing 18 marathons, 10 half marathons, and numerous 10k and 5k races. He has an impressive coaching history that includes coaching for the last ten years on the YMCA 10k Training Team and as head coach for the inaugural Sports Backers 8k Training Team. He has also coached the Sports Backers Marathon Training Team and Richmond Road Runners Club. Dan is a certified USA Track and Field coach.
