October 2012 issue of Outside Magazine

RICHMOND, VA- Outside Magazine announced in its July 2012 issue that Richmond is among the ten finalists for its Best Town Ever award. The winning town will receive the official honor of Outside’s “Best Town in America” and will be featured on the October 2012 magazine cover, Outside Online, and an exclusive segment on Outside Television.

The winner will be determined through an online voting application on Outside’s Facebook page. Voting opened today and will remain open through July 9th. Individuals can vote one time per day.

To select the finalists, Outside partnered with the nonprofit American Rivers to great places to live that have the usual dreamy quality-of-living criteria and also an active recreational engagement with nearby waterways – kayaking, fishing, boating, walking and bike paths, and riverfront parks—and a positive environmental story.

Among the finalists are:

  • Richmond, Virginia
  • Hood River, Oregon
  • Missoula, Montana
  • Boise, Idaho
  • Nevada City, California
  • Durango, Colorado
  • Ithaca, New York
  • Milwaukee, Wisconsin
  • Nashville, Tennessee
  • Asheville, North Carolina

The winning town will be selected based on two criteria:

  1. A ranking of each finalist by number of votes.
  2. The creativity of user-submitted content—i.e. great photos capturing the essence of each town, and smart comments describing the why it should be called Outside’s Best Town Ever. The creativity of each town’s user-submitted material will be ranked by a team of Outside editors and those comments may be used in the coverage of each city in the magazine.

Voting will remain open through July 9th at www.facebook.com/outsidemagazine. All voters are entered to win a week-long trip to the town of their choice.
