
Maymont Half Marathon
The U.S. Army X-Country Festival at Maymont Half Marathon is unlike any other you’ve ever run! The unique course is split between dirt roads and paved roads in and around the James River Park. The half-marathon takes place outside of Maymont park except for the finish line. As a special bonus, all half marathon registrants receive a short-sleeve technical shirt. To register, click here.

Start on Shields Lake Drive by Visitors Center and head west around the lake and go left on Berkley Lane continuing west. Go right on Spottswood Road and take the next left onto Trafford Road. Make an immediate left turn onto the Byrd Park jogging trail and follow around until you cut off the last turn by the wide ladder and return to Trafford Road across the grass. Go left on Trafford road and go left on Blanton Street. Make a right onto Rugby Road. Go down the hill and Rugby Road right turns into Pump House Drive. Continue down Pump House Road and make a right on the dead end spur by the Boulevard Bridge. Cross the Boulevard bridge heading south on the sidewalk. After crossing the bridge take the second trail to your right and then another right turn on the Buttermilk trail that takes you under the Boulevard Bridge heading east. Make another right turn on the trail that leads up to Riverside Drive. Go left onto Riverside Drive heading east. Turn into the 42nd street parking lot on Riverside drive take the trail from the parking lot down and go across the pedestrian bridge to the gravel road along the river and head east. Take gravel road to the emergency access bridge to Belle Isle. Once on the island you will make a left on a paved section of road and loop around the base of Belle Isle on the western side and end up on the footbridge under the Lee Bridge to the north side of the river. Head east on Tredegar Street and make a right turn onto Brown’s Island. Stay on the canal walk until it ends. Go right behind the floodwall and continue on east until you get to 14th Street. Go right and head across the 14th street Bridge heading south across the river. After going past the floodwall make a right turn onto the Floodwall Walk trail. Take the Floodwall Walk to the steep paved uphill to the pedestrian bridge crossing the railroad tracks go right to the to back of the SunTrust building. Continue along Riverview Parkway until you hit the exit ramp on Riverside Drive where you go right and loop back under the Lee Bridge. Make a right turn onto a trail that will take you under the exit ramp from the Lee Bridge. At the top of the rocks go left and run on the sidewalk of the Lee Bridge across the river. At Spring Street go behind the brick wall on the sidewalk through the park and make a left turn on Albemarle Street. Make a right turn onto Cherry Street. Make a left turn onto Idlewood heading west. Make a left turn onto Harrison Street which turns into Colorado Avenue. Go left onto Carter Street heading south and turn left onto Dakota Avenue and an immediate right turn onto Texas Avenue going south. Make a right turn on Kansas Avenue and a right turn onto Hampton Street. Enter the Hampton Street entrance to Maymont Park and proceed to the finish line.
Mile Markers are located along the course. in the form of small signs at each mile. There are no splits given on the course.
Water Stops are located at five points along the course: just after mile 3 on Riverside Drive, mile 4.5 by Reedy Creek Parking lot, mile 7.25 at Tredegar and 10th streets, mile 9.25 at Riverview and Riverside Drive and just after mile 11 on Harrison.
Directions to the Half Marathon Start
from the Hampton Street entrance of Maymont:
- Turn left onto Hampton Street.
- Turn left onto Amelia Street and go one block.
- Turn left at Shields Lake Drive
- The Nature & Visitor Center will be on your left.
