Orvis Three Hole Fly Rod Casting Competition

Brown's Island
 Fly fishing is becoming one of the most popular ways to enjoy the James River. To celebrate the growing popularity of this sport, the Sports Backers is partnering with the Orvis Company to host a Three Hole Fly Rod Casting Course. The course will challenge fly casters to accurately land a fly under various conditions, modeled after those typically encountered while fishing. Each of the three stations will present the caster with a unique challenge, including: accuracy, distance and casting technique. Like golf, each station on the course will have a par score.
Depending on the station, experts will be able to hit par in one to two casts, intermediates in three to four casts and beginners in five to six casts. The course will have no handicap and the overall best scoring caster will receive the Grand Prize of a Helios 9ft. 5wt fly rod. Second place will be a Battenkill Large Arbor III Reel and the third best score will earn the caster a Safe Passage Rod and Reel Case.
