Maymont X-Country Festival
High School Boys & Girls 5k

The Maymont X-Country Festival is an affordable way to provide an entire team with a major meet experience (that's well-organized and professionally done!) packed with both fun and competition. Combine the natural rolling terrain on the grounds of Maymont with the wildlife along the course and you’ve got yourself the perfect 5k cross-country course.

JV Teams (unlimited no. of runners - only top 7 scored) $50 per team
Freshman Teams (unlimited no. of runners - only top 7 scored) $50 per team

Important Information:

  • The High School event is sanctioned by the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and the Virginia High School League (VHSL). Sanctioning is being requested for Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Ohio, New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, West Virginia and Missouri.
  • All NFHS competition and sanctioning rules are in effect.
  • Placement of teams in divisions is the responsibility of the Maymont X-Country Festival and placements will be final. Assignments will be listed at www.sportsbackers.org and www.milestat.com at 12 p.m. on September 21, 2012.

Details:

  • Races will start on time!
  • Please arrive at the start line at least 10 minutes before the start of your race. If you miss your start time, you will not be allowed to run in another time slot.
  • B-chips (or chips already attached to the number bib) will be assigned to every runner for timing purposes.
  • Maymont does not allow pets on the property, so please leave your four-legged friends at home!

Packet Pick-Up:

Coaches are responsible for picking up team packets. Packet pick-up will be available at Maymont near the Hampton Street entrance on Friday, September 28 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday, September 29 from 6 a.m. to Noon. After 12:00 noon, any team packet not picked up will disqualify that school from competition.

Photos:

Say Cheese! Brightroom photographers will be snapping participant photos along the course, so don’t just flash your pearly whites – make sure your bib is visible! Then visit Brightroom's website the week after the race to see your pics.

Merchandise:

Don’t go home empty handed. Stop by the Maymont X-Country Festival merchandise tent to pick out an event T-shirt or souvenir to help you remember this fun-filled weekend with your teammates.

Results:

Team results will be posted on site at Maymont. Results will also be posted at www.sportsbackers.org and www.milestat.com after the conclusion of the day’s events.

Awards:

High School Team Awards will be presented to each member of the top 3 teams in each division. Individual awards will be presented to the top 15 finishers in each Team race.

Course Description:

The 5k course starts near Maymont House and doubles back on itself several times allowing spectators easy visibility to multiple points along the course. In Byrd Park runners will pass a lake and scenic sculptures before returning to Maymont. The course then passes by the Children's Farm at Maymont before heading back to Maymont House and the finish line.

High School Teams can preview the 5k course:
The Course will be open and available to run on Friday Sept. 28 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Due to the races Friday evening (Elementary school Boys & Girls 1 mile and the Open 5k), the course will not be available after 5 p.m. We will also allow teams to set-up tents at this time.
