The Colonial Athletic Association will be hosting its third annual youth basketball tournament in conjunction with the CAA Men’s Basketball Tournament March 7-8, 2009. The Colonial Athletic Association Youth Basketball Tournament is inviting 10u, 11u, 12u, and 13u girls and boys teams to play in this unique tournament. The 2009 tournament will be held at the Greater Richmond Convention Center. Click here to register online. The CAA is also adding some unique benefits to the participants in this tournament. Every player and two coaches will receive a free pass to the Friday, Saturday, and Sunday sessions of the CAA men’s tournament games being played at the Richmond Coliseum, March 6-8. The Richmond Coliseum is located downtown at 601 East Leigh Street, which is right across the street from the Greater Richmond Convention Center. Participants and coaches will have a unique opportunity to not only play in a competitive tournament, but also be a part of the excitement of March Madness conveniently located right next to the tournament site. To take advantage of this great opportunity, you must purchase the tickets in advance. Friends and family also have the chance to experience this great weekend of basketball at a great price as well! A special $10 pass for all the CAA men’s tournament games will be available to those who are associated with the Colonial Athletic Association Youth Tournament. These passes must be ordered in advance, so don’t forget! The tournament pass order forms and payment must be returned with the team registration.
The Colonial Athletic Association is partnering with the Metropolitan Richmond Sports Backers to create CAA Youth Basketball Tournament. This tournament is part of the Indoor Sports Tournament Center project created by the Sports Backers.
This project, with the help of the Greater Richmond Convention Center Authority, the Greater Richmond Hotel and Motel Association and The Community Foundation, plus additional support from the Richmond Metropolitan Convention & Visitors Bureau, has hosted the:
- Monument City Girls Volleyball Classic (annual)
- 2004, 2006 & 2007 U.S. Fencing Association’s North American Cup
- 2005 & 2006 U/16 U/19 USA Field Hockey National Indoor Championships
- Boys’ East Coast Volleyball Championships
Sports Backers is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization founded in October 1991 to build a more vibrant community through sports. The mission of the organization is to maximize the community benefits of sports tourism in the region by:
- Creating, attracting and improving significant sporting events,
- Serving as a resource in the development and utilization of sports facilities and
- Aiding area youth through sports outreach programs.
