Mr. Barry Taylor
Following a thirty-seven year career with the YMCA, Barry retired in 2013. His YMCA career took him from Baltimore, Maryland to West Chester, Pennsylvania to Palo Alto, California and finally to Richmond.
Taylor led the YMCA of Greater Richmond through significant changes, taking it to a new level of financial stability. In 2011, the YMCA was able to provide more than $6 million in financial assistance to families and individuals. The organization operates seventeen branches in the Richmond and Petersburg area, serving more than 170,000 people. It is the 25th largest YMCA association in the United States
Barry attended Towson State University where he acquired his BS degree in elementary education. He taught elementary school for seven years prior to beginning his career with the YMCA. While he was teaching elementary school, Barry completed his Masters of Education at Loyola College in Baltimore.
Barry has three daughters and lives in Chesterfield County. He is an avid racquet ball player. Barry has served on the Sports Backers Board of Directors since 2012.
