Eastern Speedgolf Open Combines Pace and Putting

The second annual Eastern Speedgolf Open benefiting The First Tee of Richmond & Chesterfield will be contested at the Foundry Golf Club in Powhatan, Va. on Saturday, June 21. The unique tournament will feature players running between shots with a winner crowned by adding golf score and running time to determine the lowest combined total. The event will raise awareness and funds for The First Tee of Richmond & Chesterfield, a youth development organization that uses the game of golf to teach life skills and healthy habits to young people from all economic circumstances.

The Eastern Open field will be packed with new and experienced speedgolfers, all of whom will be running and playing for a great cause. Reigning World Champion Rob Hogan (Galway, Ireland) is scheduled to compete, having won the professional division at last year’s event and taken the world championship crown at Bandon Dunes Golf Resort hosted by Speedgolf International last October.

Jamie Young (Kenosha, Wi.) competed in last year’s Eastern Open as an amateur and had the lowest score overall, shooting 77 in 49:54 for a speedgolf total of 126:54. He will be joined again by local PGA professional Ralph Reahard (Richmond, Va.) and a field of amateurs and professionals that will also include several First Tee youth participants from across the country who were selected based on qualifying speedgolf scores and commitment and involvement with the organization’s mission and programs.

The speedgolf event is free and open to the public. The tournament committee is still accepting entries for participants in either the 9- or 18-hole division, and there are opportunities to serve as an on-course volunteer. More details about the tournament can be found at www.thefirstteerichmondchesterfield.org.
